Bay Ridge Cares is an organization of neighbors dedicated to making our community a better place by doing all the good we can, in all the ways we can, for as many as we can.

Our Story

Bay Ridge Cares (BRC) is a local nonprofit organization in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn—run completely by volunteers—that builds community relationships, helps our neighbors in need, and fosters the sense of a “small town in the big city”.

The seeds of our organization were planted in the summer of 2012 when members of our community held a fundraiser to help five local families recover from a devastating fire. During the wake of Superstorm Sandy in the fall of 2012, hundreds of volunteers came together to form the Bay Ridge Cares Kitchen—preparing and delivering more than 26,000 hot and healthy meals to hard hit areas like Coney Island, Rockaway, Breezy Point, Gerritsen Beach and Staten Island.

With a desire to keep this sense of “small town” alive, a group came together in early 2013 to launch Bay Ridge Cares as an official nonprofit, establishing a Board of Directors and filing for 501c(3) status.

Since then, we continue to provide financial assistance to community members struggling with illness and personal crises, and organize activities to bring our community together and improve the quality of our neighborhood. Some of our efforts are announced publicly, while some are not—preserving the privacy of those in crisis.

All of our efforts are made possible by volunteers and the financial support of numerous individuals and local businesses.
